Cast iron boilers are still the norm in this category, but there are certainly upgrades available.  Typical replacement boilers are rated in the 80-84% AFUE range.  In order to get substantially more efficient, you will likely spend a good bit extra to get into the high efficiency categories - generally worth it if you plan on being in your home for at least ten years.  Our primary boiler offering today consists of:
